As we celebrate British Flowers Week this month, the flower farm is finally bursting into life. After months of planning, sowing, planting and nurturing, it feels wonderful to see colour appearing across the plot and to know that the busiest and most beautiful part of the season is just beginning. May is always a challenging month on the flower farm, and this year has certainly been no exception. The weather has fluctuated wildly, with temperatures in the polytunnel swinging from minus one to a sweltering forty-one degrees. A late frost on the 11th of May wiped out four recently planted crops and, at times, it has tested me almost to my limit. April has certainly kept us on our toes here at the flower farm. We began the month full of excitement as work started on the log cabin – a space that will soon host our long-awaited workshops.
